HEART OF JESUS

HEART OF JESUS MEEK AND MILD (all stand)

Heart of Jesus meek and mild Hear, O hear Thy feeble child,

When the tempest most severe, Heart of Jesus, hear.

Sweetly we'll rest On Thy Sacred Heart

Never from Thee O let us part;

Hear then Thy loving Children's pray'r

O Heart of Jesus. Heart of Jesus, hear.

THIRD QUARTER (all kneel)

ACT OF REPARATION

Priest and People: Divine Savior of souls With countenances covered with confusion,  we prostrate ourselves in Your sovereign presence. Our eyes turn toward the solitary tabernacle where You, imprisoned, sigh for our love. Heartbroken, we grieve at the sight o You  forgotten by those whom You bave redeemed; Your Blood made void, Your sacrifices fruitless, Your love derided. Yet, since in Your infinite condescension, You permit us tonight to unite our sighs with Yours, our tears with the tears, which for our sake fell from those most sacred eyes and with the drops of blood which poured out from Your Divine Heart, we pray to You, Sweet Jesus, for those who do not pray to You; we bless You in place of those who curse You; we adore You for those who outrage You. With every power of our souls, in all the moments of this night, and before all the tabernacles of the world, in union with the efficacious desires of Your loving Heart,  we wish to bless and praise You.

Priest: O Lord, may the cry of expiation and repentance that rise from our contrite hearts ascend to You!

For our sins and for those of our parents, brothers and sisters, and friends, and of all the world, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For infidelity and sacrilege, for hatreds and animosities, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For blasphemies, for the profanation of holy days, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For impurities and scandals, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For thefts and injustices; for faintheartedness and human respect, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For disobedience to Holy Mother Church, for the violation of fasting, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For the crimes of spouses, the negligences of parents, the faults of children, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For offenses, committed against the Supreme Pontiff, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For the persecutions raised against bishops, priests, religious and sacred virgins, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For the insults done to Your images, the profanation of Churches,  the abuse of the Sacraments and out rages against Your august tabernacle, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For the crimes of the impious and blaphemous press, for the horrid machinations of secret sects, pardon, O Lord, pardon

For the just who waver, for sinners who resist grace, and for all those who suffer. pardon, O Lord, pardon

   People: Mercy, O Lord, mercy.

Priest: Pardon, O Lord, and mercy for those who need most Your grace. May the light of Your divine eyes never be withdrawn from us; chain our inconstant heart to the door of Your tabernacle; make them experience there the flames of divine love, and for their own ingratitude and rebelliousness, may they grieve in pain, may they weep tears of blood, may they live dying of love.

   People: Amen.

PRAYER FOR THE DYING

Priest: O Most merciful Jesus, burning with love for souls, we pray, by the agonies of Your most Sacred Heart and by the sorrows of Your Immaculate Mother, to wash in Your Blood the sinners of the whole world now in their agony and about to die this day.

   People: Amen.

Priest: Agonizing Heart of Jesus, People:  Have mercy on the dying.

AN ACT OF REPARATION TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

Priest and People: Adorable Heart of Jesus, glowing with love for us  and inflamed with zeal for our salvation! O Heart, ever sensible of our misery and the wretchedness to which our sins have reduced us, infinitely rich in mercy to heal the wounds of our souls! Behold us humbly prostrate before You to express the sorrow that fills our hearts for the coldness and indifference with which we have so long requited the numberless benefits You have conferred upon us. With a deep sense of the outrages heaped upon You by our sins and the sins of others, we come to make a solemn reparation of honor  to Your Most Sacred Majesty. It was our sins that overwhelmed Your Heart with bitterness; it was the weight of our iniquities that pressed down Your face to the earth in the Garden of Olives

and caused You to expire in anguish and agony on the Cross. But now, repenting and sorrowful, we cast our selves at Your feet  and implore forgiveness.

Adorable Heart of Jesus, source of true contrition and ever merciful to the penitent sinner, impart to our hearts the spirit of penance, and give to our eyes a fountain of tears that we may sincerely bewail our sins,   now, and for the rest of our days.  O would that we could blot them out even with our blood!

Pardon them, O Lord, in Your mercy, and pardon and convert to You all that have committed irreverences and sacrileges against You in the Sacrament of Your love, and thus give another proof that Your mercy is above all Your works. Divine Jesus, with You there is mercy and plentiful redemption. Deliver us from our sins. Accept the sincere desire we now entertain and our holy resolution, relying on the assistance of Your grace,          henceforth to be faithful to You. And, in order to repair the sins and ingratitude  by which we have grieved Your most tender and loving Heart we are resolved in the future ever to love and honor You in the most adorable Sacrament of the altar, where You are ever present to hear and grant our petitions and to be the food and life of our souls. Be, O compassionate Jesus, our mediator with Your heavenly Father whom we have so grievously offended. Strengthen our weakness, confirm our resolutions of amendment, and as Your Sacred Heart is our refuge and our hope when we have sinned, so may It be the strength and support of our repentance, that nothing in life or death may ever again separate us from You. Amen.

   People: Amen.

PRAYER TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS IN TIME OF TROUBLE

Priest and People: O Sacred Heart of Jesus, make us remember, when the world is cold and dreary, and we know not where to turn for comfort, that there is always one spot bright and cheerful - the Sanctuary. When we are in desolation of spirit, when all who are dear to us have passed away like summer flowers, and none are left to us or care for us, we whisper to our troubled souls that there is one Friend who dies not, One whose love never changes, the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the altar.

When sorrows deepen and crush us with their burden, when we look in vain for comfort,  let Your dear words come forth with full force from the tabernacle: "Come to Me all you that labor and are heavily burdened, I and will refresh you."

Would that we could realize the pure happiness of receiving Your sympathy. Would that we could feel - when we are crushed and humbled, when the hope we have live for has withered, when sorrows and trials that we dare not reveal to any make our souls sink well nigh unto death; when we look in vain for someone to understand us, one who will enter into our miseries make us remember that there is One on the altar who knows every fiber of our hearts, every sorrow, every pain special to our peculiar natures, and who deeply sympathizes with us.

Compassionate Heart of Jesus, our hearts crave for sympathy, and to suffer seems nothing to the bitterness of suffering alone.

THE BLESSING

Priest and People: Omy Jesus, fountain of inexhaustible benediction, You who did blest the Apostles before You ascend into heaven, bless me also, and with Your presence sanctify me. Bless my memory, that it may ever recollect You. Bless my understanding,  that it may ever think of You. Bless my will, that it may never seek or desire that which may be displeasing to You. Bless my body and all its actions. Bless my heart with all its affections. Bless me now and at the hour of my death. Bless me in time and eternity,  and grant that Your most sweet blessing may be to me a pledge of eternal happiness. Bless my brethren, the faithful. Bless my dear ones. Bless everyone love, and everyone to whom owe any gratitude, and bring me and them to rest in Your Sacred Heart forever. Amen.
